Happy Halloween!

Sugar cookies are one of my favorite things to bake.  For halloween I made pumpkin, candy corn, ghost and spider web shaped cookies.  Here are some pictures of them…

I also made candy corn sugar cookies.

Here is the recipe for the candy corn sugar cookies…

4 tablespoons unsalted butter

1/2 cup sugar

1 large egg yolk

1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

3/4 cup all purpose flour

candy corn

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Place butter and sugar and beat until combined.  Beat in egg yolk, vanilla, baking powder, and salt.  Add flour, and mix until a dough forms.

2. Roll dough into balls about the size of a teaspoon.  Place on baking sheet.

3. Bake about 10 to 12 minutes.

4. Remove from oven and press a candy corn into the center of each cookie.  Let cookies cool.

Kyle’s 8th Birthday!

Last month was my nephew Kyle’s 8th birthday.  For his birthday party I made him a volcano cake that erupted smoke made from dry ice.  It was a chocolate cake with a chocolate filling and the outside was covered with homemade fondant.  I also had homemade sugar cookies in the shapes of 8’s.

Amanda’s 4th Birthday!

This past June my niece Amanda turned 4.  As most 4 year old girls, she loves pink and princesses.  For her birthday party I made cupcakes with pink fluffy frosting and sugar cookies in the shape of 4’s.  It was a very fun day!

Pink sparkly shoes!

The back of her princess dress.

Jungle Cake!

This cake was for a friend’s baby shower and the theme was jungle animals.  They had twins which made it even more special for me to make their cake because I am a twin too!  The twin boys were born July 10, 2010.  They are so cute!

It was a chocolate vanilla swirl cake with a vanilla buttercream.  The cake was covered in fondant and I used homemade sugar cookies to decorate with.
